We understand the unique challenges the Royal Navy community faces and are committed to addressing them through proactive and impactful funding. Our initiatives empower individuals to thrive through life-changing opportunities for families and young people, educational support, welfare services, or essential provisions like sheltered housing.
By improving health and well-being, enhancing social stability, and promoting social mobility, we aim to create a stronger, more resilient Royal Navy community. Our goal is to ensure that personnel and their families have the support they need to lead secure, fulfilling lives during and beyond their military service.
The Greenwich Hospital Bursary Scheme
We believe that every child from the Royal Navy community deserves access to an exceptional education—a foundation for a bright and fulfilling future, particularly for those who have faced challenges due to their parents’ service.
The Greenwich Hospital Bursary Scheme is designed to widen access to education for children from former and serving Royal Navy personnel who will benefit most from the opportunities provided by the Royal Hospital School. The scheme focuses on supporting children who face significant barriers to their development, especially those whose home circumstances and educational needs could be transformed by experiencing an independent school education at the Royal Hospital School.
Funding Options
- MOD Continuity of Education Allowance (CEA): Families in receipt of CEA are eligible for further discounted fees.
- 15% Greenwich Hospital Discount: This discount is available to eligible families and is not means-tested.
- Greenwich Hospital Bursary – these are means-tested, and depending on the applicant’s circumstances, can offer a fee reduction of up to 50%. Eligibility does not guarantee that a bursary will be awarded, as they are limited in number and can be oversubscribed.
Bursaries are allocated based on the following criteria:
- Charitable need
- Seafaring priority: Children of serving officers and ratings are prioritised over those of retired personnel.
- Entrance examination and interview performance.
- Availability of places (day or boarding) within each year group.
